Homemade Eggnog

Bring Homemade Eggnog to your table with an easy method and crowd-pleasing taste. It’s perfect for busy weeknights and casual gatherings alike.

Homemade Eggnog captures the essence of meals while staying approachable for everyday cooking. The method focuses on maximizing flavor with minimal steps, using common pantry items and fresh ingredients. From the first bite you’ll notice a balance of texture and taste that feels both familiar and exciting. To build depth, we combine proper seasoning with simple techniques: gentle heat for aromatics, accurate measurements, and attention to doneness. Small details—like resting time or layering ingredients—make a noticeable difference in the final dish. This recipe is designed to be flexible. You can swap in seasonal produce, adjust spices to match your preferences, or adapt the base to suit dietary needs. The goal is to keep the spirit of the dish while letting you tailor it to your kitchen. Serving ideas are wide open: pair with a crisp salad, roasted vegetables, warm bread, or your favorite grains. Leftovers store well and often taste even better the next day as flavors settle. That makes the recipe suitable for meal prep and busy schedules. For best results, read the steps once before you start, assemble ingredients, and cook with confidence. Taste as you go, and don’t be afraid to adjust seasoning. With these principles, Homemade Eggnog becomes a reliable addition to your rotation—crowd-pleasing, practical, and full of flavor.

INGREDIENTS

6 large eggs
¾ cup sugar
¼ tsp fine sea salt
3 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
2 tsp pure vanilla extract

PREPARATION STEPS

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and sea salt until well combined. Set aside.
2
In a large saucepan, combine the whole milk, heavy whipping cream, cinnamon, and nutmeg
Heat over medium-low heat, whisking often, until the mixture begins to steam, about 10 to 15 minutes.
3
Gradually add ¼ cup of the warm milk mixture to the egg mixture, whisking constantly
Repeat this process twice more until you’ve added a total of 1 cup of the milk mixture to the egg mixture.
4
Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk mixture
Continue to heat and whisk almost constantly until the mixture thickens and reaches 160°F, about 15 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in the vanilla extract. Strain the mixture into a jar or other container with a cover. Allow it to chill completely in the refrigerator.
Stir well before serving and top with a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.
